The main building project is now complete and following
the grand opening in July 08 our much improved premises of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Hounslow branch is ready for business. ‘Our
home’ is now ready to provide space for therapies such as physiotherapy, yoga, aromatherapy, relaxation and reflexology and general
exercises.
The extension has been funded by a number of local organisations,
The Hounslow Branch of the MS Society, The Housing and Community Services, LB Hounslow, Hounslow Crossroads Care Scheme and
the local Rotary Club Branch – Heston & Isleworth and was built after an extensive consultation with branch members.
The
consultation identified the positive social impact the branch had on people’s lives, but found many people needed help in accessing
therapy treatments in order to manage their symptoms. The branch headquarters provided a
convenient and friendly setting but an extension was needed to accommodate the new service.
Physiotherapy
can be of great benefit to people with Multiple Sclerosis. It helps maintain independence by improving symptoms such as fatigue and tremor,
as well as preventing loss of mobility, strength and balance.
The branch may subsidise therapy treatments for members
through our grant system. We are still in the early stages of developing these services but hope that in time other local residents with
neurological conditions will be able to use the facilities.
The
official opening took place on Monday 28th July with The Worshipful The Mayor of the London Borough of Hounslow, Councillor Genevieve
Hibbs cutting the ribbon. Also in attendance was the the Deputy Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Councillor Mrs. Seema Kumar,
Sue Spurlock, the Acting Director for Community Services in the London Borough of Hounslow, Barbara Williams, Director of Operations MS
Great Britain, Barbara Doherty, Deputy Chair of Rotary and Cherna Crome MBE Chair of Crossroads.
